Last week I spent some time on my day trading account and purchased about $1100 worth of a company that in my opinion just can't loose (in the longer run). I am not trying to make big money on a shooting star, or up and comer, I just want something steady. In the world of stocks there are an overwhelming amount of choices, much like a Vegas casino, but I now tend to go for the *safe* bets. Yeah, it's safe until the laws change, or an angry crowd gets the president out of office, but I'm not saying guarantee.
The purchase was McDonald's stock. I didn't buy it two years ago when the economy was slipping, but recommended it to a friend as a sure fire way to have a safe investment as everyone trades down. I should have taken my own advice, but hindsight is 20/20, so I'm over it. I bought it now and it goes well with the Philip Morris stock, because the smokers don't quit.
Last night I was in Ellicott City, driving home after ten at night. Drove past a McDonald's - line of four cars at the drive through. Later on the drive I saw a line at the McD's in Pasadena. Seems like they are supplying what "average" Americans want, and doing a pretty good job with the rest of the world too.
In related news I got off the couch and got a free 7-day pass to a local gym to get back into it, again. On the wagon, off the wagon, try try again. So, I have 15-20 pounds to loose, and I'm STILL off of french fries and soda (started of 1/1/11). The idea for this post came from the irony that I have to drive right past a McDonald's in order to get to the gym. I could actually walk from the McD to the gym, or vice versa. I smiled today as I drove by when I thought of the irony.
I made the choice to stop all soda and french fries because of their particularly high calorie content with little satisfaction. As I said above, I'm still sticking to that, and now trying to add a gym routine. I actually had a dream this week where I drank a Coke and it was delicious, it was only a dream.

Buying McDonald's stock is GENIUS. I don't know why I've never thought of it!
ReplyDeleteI don't drink soda, but maybe your gym-going will help motivate me!
